Mission And Goals

- To provide access to primary/secondary school and college education for poor children in India, based on need and merit.

- To ensure that education is actually related to the real life need of making a living.

Fifty Dollars Go a Long Way

The average school tuition and supplies for a child in twelfth grade is fifty dollars per year; the average cost of a school desk and bench set that seats three children is fifty dollars. Please consider supporting as many children, or donating as many desk-bench sets, as you can.

One Hundred Dollars go even further: Educate A Child

Donors can directly influence a child's life through OPEN's Ignite Scholarship program, which provides scholarships for needy children for school, vocational diploma, and college education. OPEN typically funds up to $200 annually for students in college. Students with fees in excess of this amount are expected to raise monies from other sources.

Contributions are suggested at one of the three levels below. They are also welcome at any amount the donor sees fit.

  • $200: Full OPEN scholarship for a student in a B.Sc./B.Com./B.E. or a Vocational training program; or full scholarship towards boarding, lodging, and annual fees and supplies for a K-12 student in a school residential program.
  • $100: Partial OPEN scholarship towards annual fees and supplies for a student in a B.Sc./B.Com./B.E. or Vocational training program; or partial scholarship towards boarding, lodging, and annual fees and supplies for a K-12 student in a school residential program.
  • $50: Full annual school fees and supplies for a Kindergarten-12th Grade school student.

Personal Contributions and Employer Matches

OPEN raises money through individual contributions, employer matching donations, and fund raising events. Companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, General Electric, Freddie Mac, and AES match donations to OPEN. If you intend to contribute to OPEN, please contact your employer to find out if they will match some or all of your contribution.

Donations are tax-deductible

OPEN is registered as a non-profit foundation in India and in the U.S., and is fully compliant with all tax filing requirements. Contributions to OPEN are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by the US Internal Revenue Service and the Indian Government. All contributions will immediately be acknowledged by email. Since most of our contributors donate multiple times in a year, we will send out year-end cumulative receipts that may be used to document contributions.

We welcome all contributions, however small. To delay may mean to forget.
