OPEN spent $7500 for a classroom at the Jaigopal Garodia High School at Madhavaram, Chennai. Almost all of the Government funding at this and other schools goes towards teacher salaries alone, with little left for classrooms and other facilities. The Parent-Teacher Association at this school will buy construction supplies and supervise construction to avoid paying markups and minimize expenses.
