The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is a rural school, which runs like a private school in that
it is a for-profit institution. It has a mix of students from all economic backgrounds.
The management gives poor students scholarships to provide them access to a much better
education than they would get at a government school. The diverse student body provides
poor students an opportunity to gain a wider spectrum of experiences and greater awareness
of what is out there in the world. OPEN gave $10,000 to the school as an interest-free
loan towards construction of a classroom building.
